The local tradition of building boats has been alive on the island decade after decade. No visit to the island is complete without visiting the Albury’s Sail Shop on Man-O-War Cay.

Where are the Abacos
The Abacos are a group of islands and cays in the northern Bahamas, about 180 miles east of South Florida and 55 miles north of Nassau. This beautiful island chain stretches over 120 miles and includes charming spots like Marsh Harbour, Elbow Cay, and Green Turtle Cay.
What are the Abacos Bahamas famous for
When the Abacos cross your mind, sailing in the Bahamas will probably pop into your mind. The Abacos is the boating capital of the Bahamas, and island hop here will whisk you away to places you probably didn’t know existed.
What to do in the Abacos Bahamas
Island hop from cay to cay, until you find the perfect beach to relax, or eventually a hidden sandbar waiting to be seen. Snorkel vibrant reefs. Sip cocktails in charming Hope Town, if relaxing and drinking something refreshing is all you can think of. The Abacos is home to some of the most pristine beaches in the Bahamas. Explore hidden beaches on Elbow Cay and Green Turtle Cay, which you’ll never want to leave. Don’t miss the iconic Elbow Reef Lighthouse or swimming with turtles in the Sea of Abaco. The truth is – if you don’t island hop here, you haven’t seen anything.
Where to stay in the Abacos
The Abacos hides incredible luxurious accommodations as you’d expect of a tropical island in the Bahamas. Some of them, nested on tropical islands you’ll only reach by boat and you’ll never want to leave. If privacy is all you think about, choose from a variety of Luxury Villas in the Abacos which you won’t believe exist located in extraordinary locations that will not seem real. And if you feel like escaping to paradise and not having to worry about a single thing, an all-inclusive option might be just what you need. I recommend the Abaco Club.
How to get to Abaco Bahamas
Fly direct to Marsh Harbour (MHH) from Miami, Fort Lauderdale, or Nassau — it’s the main gateway to the Abacos. Daily flights with American Airlines and Bahamasair make it easy. Once you land, hop on a ferry or boat to explore the surrounding cays like Hope Town or Green Turtle Cay. Simple, smooth, and straight to paradise.
Are the Abaco islands safe
Yes. As with all of the Out Islands in the Bahamas, Long Island is safe and will feel like arriving at your own slice of paradise.
